Thank you for joining me in this first episode of Insurance Flipsides. I am L.S Howard, International Editor at Wells Media Group, and we’ll be using this podcast as a way to focus on the positive contributions the industry makes – ranging from giving back to society, to providing essential coverages for people and businesses. From time to time, we also might talk about how the industry can improve its sometimes-tarnished image and increase its relevance in a rapidly changing risk environment. I hope you enjoy our discussions.

In May I interviewed two of the four crewmembers who are now rowing from Monterey, California to Hawaii, as part of the World’s Toughest Row – Pacific Challenge. Theresa Patricios is head of Investments at Convex, and Cameron Parker, is head of P&C Structured Solutions Europe at Swiss Re. They are joined on the boat by Andrei Celovschi and Stuart Thompson, both of Swiss Re. These intrepid individuals will be rowing for 2,800 miles, non-stop, for their team “The Pacific Discovery.” It’s scary, exciting, the adventure of a lifetime – and it’s definitely a challenge.

The charity Theresa and Cameron are supporting is Mind, the UK-based mental health charity.
