			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Jason Cass, chair of the Independent Agents &#038; Brokers of America’s Young Agents Committee, and owner of the JDC Insurance Group based in Centralia, Ill., and Brian Appleton, an independent agent based in Des Moines, Iowa, have a story to tell. These two young agents have recently launched a new website and series of podcast interviews to talk about issues important to the independent agency system. They hope to advance the insurance industry and the independent agency channel by doing so.</p>
<p>Both Cass and Appleton took some time to speak with Insurance Journal about a recent topic of discussion on their website www.AgentsInfluence.com. In this interview Cass and Appleton discuss the independent agency channel’s pay structure, why they believe it may be time to make a change, and why the industry’s compensation models may not be appealing to the younger generation.</p>

Even so, the impact of the historical reform measure will generate both good and bad side effects in the medical liability market, says Jim Weider, CEO of the Cooperative of American Physicians. The integration of care in healthcare will afford the insurance industry an opportunity to integrate as well, and that’s a good thing, he says. As for the bad, the future promises an environment where doctors will be asked to do much, much more. That could lead to problems and claims.</p>

At the CIPC’s first annual conference in Dallas, Hourihan spoke about why AIG became involved with the new council and why agents and brokers should invest their time in this segment. </p>

It is important for independent agents to provide a &#8220;richer customer experience,&#8221; he says. He takes the role CAP is expected to play in empowering agents and insuring future success seriously. According to Chip, &#8220;CAP is not a complete answer.&#8221; Rather, he sees CAP working with many industry partners to provide a comprehensive offering of valued services to consumers.</p>
