The Insurance Data Security Model Law, approved by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in 2017, creates a legal framework for requiring insurance companies to operate cybersecurity programs. The law may soon start to be adopted in states around the nation, according to Tim Owen, a vice president of product management for insurance software provider Vertafore Inc. Owen talked with Insurance Journal about what insurers and agents should be thinking about as states start to consider adopting this model law.
