Speed kills. For every 5 mph increase there's an 8 percent increase in fatality risk, according to Charles Farmer, vice president in research and statistical services for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Farmer was at a risk management conference in Las Vegas recently to talk about vehicle technology and its effects on the commercial and personal auto markets. But he couldn't help offering up some stats on his pet peeve: speeding.
