Phil Edmundson, CEO and Founder of Corvus Insurance, kicked off a discussion of the value created by innovation during a recent CM Virtual Roundtable by talking about the billion-dollar-plus IPO value for an InsurTech specializing in customer-acquisition services, and the overarching trend of InsurTechs creating value outside of insurance companies by bringing new efficiencies to functions once housed inside them. Taking that a step further, Asha Vellaikal, Managing Director & Global Head of Digital Labs for Marsh, wonders if a trend from the fintech world—“finance-as-a-service” platforms allowing any non-financial product or service providers to embed financial capabilities into their customer experiences—will spill over into insurance as well.
Mike Fitzgerald, Principal Analyst, Insurance, CB Insights, moderated the discussion.
