As the National Association of Insurance Commissioners moves forward with a corporate governance standard for U.S. insurers, the regulatory body has some corporate governance housekeeping of its own to attend to--at least according to Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Tom Leonardi, who criticized the NAIC's governance practices in a letter to regulators circulated at the December NAIC meeting. In this interview, Howard Mills, Chief Advisor for the Insurance Industry Group at Deloitte, discusses both the NAIC's movement toward corporate governance requirements and the letter, with Carrier Management's Susanne Sclafane.
