Growing Insurance Coverage for Trees, Shrubs and Landscapes

With a database of nearly a million wholesale base prices of horticultural assets and a nationwide network of certified arborists and licensed and insured tree crews, Horticultural Asset Management Inc. specializes in helping insurers come up with the replacement cost for lost trees, shrubs and other landscape assets. In this interview with Claims Journal, HMI President and CEO Doug Cowles explains that while the biggest barrier to insurance products for plant material used to be the lack of a standardized replacement cost system, now several insurers are offering coverage.

“Several insurors are now offering coverage” This is a misleading statement. The standard HO-3 has always had some “plant” coverage for the perils of fire & lightning, and 7 more perils. WINDSTORM has never been covered. Please give us the name of the carriers that insure for windstorm. Also the limit is no more than $500 for any one tree plant or shrub. If a confligation fire destroyed ever thing that was a growning plant the limit is 5% of the dwelling amount. Plus the tree debris removal limit is $1,000 for one or a hundred. Please show me the form you refrence in your article.

I have found that windstorm is NOT covered by any of the insurance companies we deal with. Please advise what insurance companies you are referring to that do provide this coverage.
