Interesting idea from a rate perspective, however I have a heard time thinking the customer will want to have their driving habits and location tracked by the company. Plus the entire greenhouse gas thing is a joke. No one believes that “gas” anymore. Time to move on to the next fad.

Story put together very well. Consumers are interested in this and insurers who offer it will see their market grow. It makes too much sense.

Sounds like an envasion of privacy. I think this will hurt more people then help in the long run from a rate standpoint. Another way for insurance companies to find a way to raise rates not lower. No one should be this envolved in our lives.

This is a true invasion of privacy. And, there are lots of people that need to drive their cars for lots of reasons. This is a way for the government and insurance companies to control people’s behavior. It is very unfair.

As a voluntary program it gives people the choice. I like the idea of paying for insurance in relation to the risk you bring and this allows a more accurate assessment of the risk. I would expect that safe, low mileage drivers would benefit through lower premiums while higher mileage and drivers with poor habits would pay more. The idea that someone can be an activist for reducing their carbon Footprint or use the reports to manage a teen driver’s skill set is appealing. It will be interesting to see how the California plan works out.
