The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation seeks to help communities and enrich lives by combining the collective strengths of the industry to provide grants, volunteer service and leadership.

In 1994, the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation was formed to support nonprofit programs throughout California. Today, the Foundation has a national reach with the establishment of a New York Division. The Foundation is funded and directed by insurance industry professionals representing a broad spectrum of the industry: reinsurers, insurance agents and brokers, property/casualty companies, health/life companies and related advertising, public relations, law, accounting, computer and other companies that work closely with the insurance industry.

This video includes Bill Ross, Chief Executive Officer of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation along with Bryan Anderson the Chairman of the San Diego Chapter.

Supporting Safer Communities: A Firefighter Needs Safety

A recent press conference, co-sponsored by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and the Washington, D.C. Fire Department, announced findings of a new national survey sponsored by Fireman’s Fund. The study finds that most fire departments are suffering from the economic downturn and are in need of additional support for equipment and training. Fireman’s Fund, through its independent agents, supports fire departments nationally. Also appearing on the video is an independent agent, All Risk, from Maryland who discusses the value in making donations to fire departments in the areas they serve.

High Performing Green Homes

Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company introduced a High Performing Green Homes program in June of 2008, and now offer it in 35 states. The eco-friendly program rewards customers that build certified high-performing green homes and offer special coverage to those interested in rebuilding green after a loss.

Country Wide Insurance in Dexter, MO was crippled by the 2009 ice storm that left parts of Missouri, Kentucky and Arkansas without power. Using Agility Recovery, within seven hours of the storm Country Wide was the only business in southeast Missouri that was operating; the insurance company was able to contact claims adjusters and process claims.

As public servant, attorney and community leader, Mary Jo Hudson officially took office as the 46th director of the Ohio Department of Insurance on Jan. 8, 2007. Not shy in letting consumers, agents and other regulators know where she stands, Director Hudson spells out why she opposes an optional federal charter and the adoption of any national catastrophe plan that would include Ohio residents paying for the problems that resident face in coastal areas. On the proactive side the Director revived the Agent Council in Ohio and says that agents enjoy her “open door” policy. Hudson boasts that agents have provided plenty of insight regarding their specific industry and business concerns. She values that input and says it definitely helps in her role as keeper of the gate for consumers and the industry.
